Champions League Draw: Juventus to meet Bayern Munich

In the pick of the Quarter-finals Juventus have been drawn against last years finalists Bayern Munich.
The Old Lady who are a resurgent force in the Champions League will first travel to the Allienz Arena before hosting the four-time winners.

Juventus are unbeaten in this season’s Champions League. They overcame Celtic comfortably in the second round 5-0 on aggregate and will be hoping to progress further in the competition. Bayern on the other hand beat Arsenal on the away goals rule are aware of the tough task ahead of them. “That is certainly not a dream draw for us,” Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said after the draw. Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger was also under no illusions: “Juventus are a very, very good team”, he told the press.“They are known to play very physically and have excellent individual players like Andrea Pirlo.“

The two sides have met each other on six occasions in the Champions League. Juventus have the slight advantage having won three, lost two and one match ending in a draw. However the side from Turin will be looking for revenge as their last meeting ended in a 4-1 humiliation at the hand of the Bavarians. The December 2009 loss in the Bianconeri’s last group game effectively knocked them out of the Champions League.

Interestingly this matchup will also see Juventus coach Antonio Conte look to exact revenge against Jupp Heynckes. The German guided Real Madrid to the 1998 Champions League after beating Juventus in the final. Conte, who made a late substitution appearance, was then part of the Bianconeri’s midfield.

Juventus who are tactically disciplined and defensively sound have already proved a tough nut to crack in Europe this season. The Bavarians are more expansive in their play and will look to their attacking wingers to unlock the Italian side’s defence. With both sides currently on route to domestic success this proves to be a thrilling European encounter.

Elsewhere Barcelona where drawn against PSG, Real Madrid will play Galatasary and Dortmund take on Malaga.
The first leg games are set to be played on April 2nd and 3rd and second leg ties are scheduled for April 9th and 10th. In contrast to previous seasons, the draw for the semi-finals was not made at the same time and will take place next month.
