Serie A Week 16 Review: Napoli Hit Six To Sink Genoa

In the last midweek action before the holiday break there was a plethora of goals in Serie A. Napoli hit six past Genoa, Atalanta hit four against Cesena and Inter Milan also notched four this time at home to Lecce. AC Milan ended the year as winter champions after Juventus were held 0-0 away at Udinese.

Tuesday 20th December

There were two games on Tuesday evening; the first game was Fiorentina away trip to Siena which ended up in a goalless draw. The other game was AC Milan away trip to Cagliari and the Milan based club came away the three points. Goals in each half from Antonio Nocerino and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to give AC Milan the three points

Wednesday 21 December

The first game of Wednesday was Juventus trip to Udine to play a inform Udinese side but both sides played a cagey affair and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Lazio and Chievo played out a 0-0 draw at the Olimpico. There was a 6 goal thriller and once again it involved Parma, after their home draw against Lecce they were drawing at home to Catania. Francesco Modesto gave Parma the lead before Sergio Almiron equalised. Jonathan Biabiany gave Parma the lead before Sergio Floccari extended the lead. Then there was a Catania fightback with a Francesco Lodi penalty and then Andrea Catellani got the equaliser. Atalanta hit four goals as they beat lowly Cesena. Cesena took the early lead thanks to Antonio Candreva. Then Atalanta hit back thanks to goals from Guido Marilungo who got two goals, German Denis penalty and Federico Peluso got the fourth to give Atalanta the win.

Napoli hit six against Genoa, Napoli were 3-0 up inside twenty-five minutes thanks to goals from Edinson Cavani who got two and Marek Hamsik. Genoa pulled one back thanks Cristobal Jorquera. Goran Pandev extended the lead before the half time break. The goalscoring didn’t end in the second half as goals from Walter Gargano and Juan Zuniga added gloss to Napoli magnificent victory. Palermo threw away a 2-0 goal lead away at Novara. A Carlalberto Ludi own goal and Nicolas Bertolo gave Palermo the lead before Novara hit back thanks to Andrea Mazzarani and Marco Rigoni to give Novara the share of the spoils. Palermo did have to play more than forty-five minutes with ten men after Josip Ilicic got sent off.

Roma picked up a much deserved 2-0 away win at Bologna, goals in the first half from Rodrigo Taddei and Pablo Osvaldo gave Luis Enrique their second win in four days. Daniele Portanova was sent off for Bologna in the final minutes of the game. Inter Milan fantastic run continues as they hit four past Lecce. Luis Muriel gave Lecce the lead early on but Inter Milan hit back with four with no reply. Giampaolo Pazzini, Diego Milito, Esteban Cambiasso and Ricky Alvarez with the goals.

Serie A now over for 2011 but what stellar beginning to the season and let’s hope that 2012 can deliver even more entertaining football.
