Serie A Week 3 Round Up

There has been some cracking action in Serie A in midweek and there was a couple of upsets including Novara beating Inter Milan and then end of Gian Piero Gasperini reign at Inter Milan.

Cesena 1-2 Lazio
Lazio came back from a goal down with two goals in the 2nd half to end a dramatic few days for everyone aligned with Lazio. Adrian Mutu stuck his first goal for Cesena as he sprung the offside trap and finished calmly past the Federico Marchetti. Lazio equalised just after half time as Hernanes equalised from the penalty spot after Mobido Diakite was bought down. just 6 minutes later Lazio turned the game around as Miroslav Klose grabbed the winner as he held off the defenders to fire home to give Lazio the points.

Chievo 1-0 Napoli
Chievo picked up a late win over Champions league contenders Napoli thanks a strike from Davide Moscardelli. Napoli rested key players and it backfired. The only goal of the game came with 17 minutes remaining as a poor clearance from Ignacio Fideleff and it fell to Davide Moscardelli who powered home from close range.

Fiorentina 3-0 Parma
A Stevan Jovetic inspired performance gave Fiorentina their second home win of their thanks to an emphatic 2nd half performance. The opening goal of the game and it was Stevan Jovetic with the goal his first for over a year, Juan Vargas cross from the left was not dealt with and it fell to Jovetic who finished with ease. On the hour Fiorentina doubled the lead and it was Alessio Cerci with the goal as he got on the end of a Juan Vargas cross to head home in off the underside of the cross bar. The final goal of the game and it was to Stevan Jovetic who got on the end of a Houssine Kharja through ball to calmly finish pass Mirante in the Parma goal.

Genoa 3-0 Catania
Genoa made it two wins out of two thanks to a brilliant home win over a poor Catania side. The opening goal of the game came just before the half hour after a defensive howler from goalkeeper Mariano Andujar as he rushed of his line and completely missed the ball meaning Rodrigo Palacio to score into an empty net. Just four minutes later it was 2-0 and it was another tap in by Rodrigo Palacio thanks to bad defending again by Catania. With 11 minutes remaining Genoa added the third and Palacio turned creator for Kevin Constant to head home.

Juventus 1-1 Bologna
Juventus 100 % record has ended as they were held to a 1-1 draw as Mirko Vucinic was hero then turned villain. Juventus took the lead before the half hour as quickly taken free kick by Andrea Pirlo found Mirko Vucinic who fired home with an angle drive. Mirko Vucinic then got himself sent off by picking up two yellow cards after a late tackle on Archimede Morleo. Bologna got the equaliser early in the second half Michele Portanova headed home from a corner to equalise.

Lecce 1-2 Atalanta
Atalanta has wiped out their deduction and has started the season brilliantly. Atalanta opened the scoring after two minutes as German Denis scored from the penalty spot after Ezequiel Schelotto was brought down. Lecce equalised 25 minutes into the game as Djamel Mesbah equalised from close range. Then ten minutes into the second half Atalanta and German Denis got the winner with a fantastic volley from a corner kick. Carlos Grosmuller late on in the game was sent off for dissent.

Milan 1-1 Udinese
Last season this game finished 4-4 but on Wednesday we were entertained to a cracking 1-1 game. Udinese took the lead on 28 minutes and it was Antonio Di Natale got the goal as an absolute howler by Christian Abbiati gifted Di Natale the goal. Gabriel Torje cross in from the left was fumbled into Di Natale to tap home into an empty net. Stephen El Shaarawy got his first goal for AC Milan in the second half as he got on the end of an Antonio Cassano and struck a brilliant right footed angle past Samir Handanovic.

Novara 3-1 Inter Milan
Gian Piero Gasperini lost his job after Inter Milan crashed and burned away at Novara. Javier Zanetti made history in this game surpassing Giuseppe Bergomi appearance record of 756, this was Zanetti 757 game. Poor defending cost Inter severely as Esteban Cambiasso gave the ball away as Mazzarani fed in Meggiorini to finish past Julio Cesar. Novara made it 2-0 late in the second half from the penalty spot Marco Rigoni smashed the spot kick down the middle. Inter got back into the game late on as Esteban Cambiasso struck home at the back post. In a frantic final minutes Novara killed the game off as Marco Rigoni was there to tap home from 6 yards out to make it 3-1.

Palermo 3-2 Cagliari
Palermo nearly threw this away in a five goal thriller but got the win in the end. Palermo scored really early on with 30 seconds as Israel international Zahavi struck an unstoppable effort past Michael Agazzi. Just 15 minutes later Palermo doubled their lead as Fabrizio Miccoli fed in Nicolas Bertolo who smashed home with ease in off underside of the cross bar. In a mad 15 minutes Palermo got the third and thought they killed the game off with a brilliant free kick curling in of the post. Cagliari got one back late on a Daniele Conti free kick was poorly dealt with by the Palermo keeper. Then in added time Cagliari made it interesting as Nainggolan scored an unbelievable solo goal as he danced by Palermo defence and scored with an angle drive.

Roma 1-1 Siena
The last game of this midweek action and Luis Enrique side are looking for their 1st win of the season after this 1-1 home draw to a spirited Siena side. 25 minutes into the game Roma took the lead, a brilliant diagonal ball from Daniele De Rossi found Jose Angel who crossed in for Marco Borriello who then crossed in for Pablo Osvaldo to tap home. Then with just minutes remaining Siena got what they deserved with a late equaliser. Man of the match Brienza drilled his effort of the post and the rebound fell to Roberto Vitello who scored from close range.
