Serie A Week 2 Round Up

Atalanta 1-0 Palermo
The lunch time kick off this Sunday in Italy and it was a sole German Denis goal that gave Atalanta the three points on a game that temporarily halted for 25 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch after a torrential downpour. The goal game just after the half hour as Denis broke the offside trap to coolly slot past the Palermo keeper

Bologna 0-2 Lecce
Leece surprised everyone today with a priceless away victory. It was a goal from each half from Guillermo Giacomazzi and Carlos Grossmuller who gave Lecce the points. Giacomazzi broke the dead lock before the half time interval as he tapped home from close range after Di Michele effort was saved. Grossmuller got the all important 2nd goal on the hour as Di Michele effort was blocked and then found Grossmuller who curled home.

Cagliari 2-1 Novara
It’s two out of two for Cagliari as they kicked off week two on Saturday evening with a 2-1 win over Novara. Cagliari opened the scoring seven minutes before the interval thanks to Thiago Ribero header. Caglairi then made it 2-0 with just four minutes to go as Joaquin Larrivey with the decisive touch to a Daniele Conti cross shot. Novara did pull one back immediately and it was Takayuki Morimoto with the goal as his deflected effort looped over Agazzi to make it a nervy for minutes for the homeside.

Catania 1-0 Cesena
A sole Maxi Lopez penalty right on half time gave the points to Vincenzo Montella Catania. The referee pointed to spot as Marco Parolo tugged back Gennaro Delvecchio in the box as Cesena were defending a corner. Up stepped Maxi Lopez to net home and give Catania their first win of the season.

Inter 0-0 Roma
The big Saturday night game failed to deliver as both sides cancelled each other out. Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg had to be stretched off after losing consciousness after a collision with Lucio, Bogdan Lobont had to come on as sub. Both teams wasted chances as Fabio Borini fired wide after a Francesco Totti cross. Diego Milito had a effort well saved by Lobont at the near post. Simon Kjaer late in the game made a brilliant goal line clearance to deny Wesley Sneijder. In stoppage time Inter had a penalty claim turned down as Sneijder went down under a challenge by Nicolas Burdisso, but the referee waved play on.

Lazio 1-2 Genoa
Genoa fought back from a goal down to pick up a surprise win at Lazio. Lazio took the lead after eleven minutes as both Miroslav Klose and Djibril Cisse exchanged passes and crossed in for Giuseppe Sculli to slide in. The former Genoa player did not celebrate. Genoa equalised ten minutes into the second half as Rodrigo Palacio finished brilliantly past Federico Marchetti with the outside of his boot. Genoa then turned the game on his head with the winner with under twenty minutes remaining Juraj Kucka profited from a Rodrigo Palacio through ball to round Marchetti and score from a tight angle.

Napoli 3-1 AC Milan
A wonderful Edinson Cavani hat-trick made the difference as Napoli took apart Milan in the Sunday evening clash in Naples. Milan took the lead after 12 minutes and it was from on loan signing Alberto Aquilani as he got on the end of a Antonio Cassano cross to head home from close range. Napoli hit back two minutes later and it was Edinson Cavani whose first time shot after Maggio knockdown squirmed past Abbiati. It was 2-1 eight minutes before half time and it came from a counter attack as Walter Gargano broke and fed Cavani who finished with aplomb. It was 3-1 just after half time and Cavani completed his hat-trick as Marek Hamsik effort was saved and after a poor clearance fell to Cavani to fire home

Parma 2-1 Chievo
It was the Sebastian Giovinco show as he grabbed all the headlines with a late winner to give Parma all three points. Parma opened the scoring just past twenty minutes as Sebastian Giovinco pounced on a defensive howler to chip the Chievo keeper with class. Chievo hit back with ten minutes remaining and it was former Parma striker Alberto Paloschi got the equaliser after great work by Cryil Thereau and Paloschi scored from a yard out. Parma netted the winner into stoppage time and it was Jonathan Biabiany cross which found Giovinco to tap home. Moment later Giovinco was sent off for two yellows.

Siena 0-1 Juventus
A battling performance by Juventus gave them a perfect two match winning record after a Alessandro Matri goal gave them the three points. The only goal of the game came nine minutes into the second half and it was the former Cagliari striker who got on the end of a Mirko Vucinic pass to score from seven yards out past two Siena players on the line.

Udinese 2-0 Fiorentina
Udinese were the fourth team to maintain their 100 percent record after a 2-0 win over Fiorentina. Udinese took the lead after seven minutes after the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty after a handball on Alessandro Gamberini, Antonio Di Natale sent the keeper the wrong way. Udinsese doubled the lead before the half and it was an unusual one-two between Isla and Riccardo Montilivo who tried to block the through pass and it fell back to Isla who unleashed an angle drive which just flew past the Fiorentina keeper. Later on in the game Fiorentina lost Alberto Gilardino to a serious looking knee injury.
