On Sunday night Sampdoria travelled to Rome to face sixth place AS Roma and came away with nothing in their final game after relegation.

The awful campaign is now over and the exodus from the club looks like it will happen. For the game Sampdoria had to deal without Franco Semioli, Stefano Lucchini, Daniele Gastaldello and Federico Macheda all missed the trip to the capital.

The opening twenty minutes of the game had a bit of a training feel to it with Roma having the best of the opening as both Totti and Simone Loria wasted chances. But five minutes later Sampdoria took the lead after Reto Ziegler thirty yard effort was parried from Lobont and Daniele Mannini pounced on the rebound to score. Just a couple of minutes later Roma equalised and it was the captain Francesco Totti with the goal as he hit a fierce angle drive by Da Costa.

Roma started stronger in the second half and were denied a penalty when Mirko Vucinic effort was blocked by Volta chest and arm. Sampdoria then went close to going ahead again when Angelo Palombo hit a blistering free kick from thirty yards out that Lobont parried away with difficulty. With twenty minutes to go Roma took the lead and it was Mirko Vucinic with the goal as he was found by Francesco Totti and he done well to beat the defence and fire past Da Costa. Roma then added a third with five minutes to go to kill the game off, Francesco Totti hit a free kick like a rocket from around twenty-five yards and Da Costa parried and Marco Borriello was there to knock home the rebound. At the other end Sampdoria had a chance to pull one back when Jonathan Biabiany wasted a golden chance when through on goal he only could fire it wide.

The exodus after Sampdoria relegation has started as it is reported in Tuttosport Swiss international Reto Ziegler is to join Juventus on a free transfer. This will be Juventus second transfer after Andrea Pirlo joined the old lady after his transfer from AC Milan. Juventus have been in for a left back and Ziegler fits the bill and a deal for the Swiss full back is on the cards.

Sampdoria rivals Genoa finished the season strongly and entertained Cesena at the Stadio Ferrais on the Sunday evening.

Genoa started strongly in the first half and rushed into a 3 goal lead. The first goal was scored after six minutes and it was Antonio Floro Flores who got the goal after two bites of the cherry. His first effort was well saved by Alex Calderoni but the second effort was too fierce for the keeper. Just over ten minutes later Genoa added the second and it was Antonio Floro Flores who got his second as well. Rodrigo Palacio pulled the ball by for Floro Flores who ghosted past the Cesena defence and netted. Just before half time Genoa added the third and it was the creator Rodrigo Palacio who got the goal. He sprung the offside trap after a Floro Flores through ball and he done well to round the keeper and slot the ball into an empty net.

Just minutes into the second half Cesena pulled one back and it was from the penalty spot. This was after debut keeper Perin fouled Bogdani in the box. Bogdani dusted himself down and emphatically scoring the penalty. With five minutes to go Cesena made the game interesting as Luis Jimenez netted a second for the away team. He sprung the offside trap after a through ball from Dominque Malonga and he beat Perin with ease from close range. Genoa played out the stoppage time and won the game and ended the season with a win.

AC Milan has exercised their option to buy out the other 50% of Kevin-Prince Boateng contract for a fee around £6m. With this agreement AC Milan have signed Alberto Paloschi and Marco Ameila on full contracts while Sokratis Papastathopoulos has been signed by Genoa on a co-ownership deal.

I have been a fan of Italian football for around 10-15 years now since the Channel four days back in the Uk with James Richardson. I am a Roma fan as well and i have been following the club since 2003 with the attack minded football with Totti and Cassano.
