Fiorentina 0-0 Sampdoria: Stalemate in Florence

Fiorentina and Sampdoria played out a 0-0 stalemate at the Stadio Franchi. Sampdoria were coming into the game on a low after an embarrassing performance on Wednesday night, losing 1-0 to rivals Genoa.

The home side were also coming into the game on a bit of a downer after losing 2-1 at home to title contenders Inter also on Wednesday.

Fiorentina were missing Mario Santana, Per Koldrup, Sebastian Frey and Stevan Jovetic all to injury. On the other side Sampdoria were missing Franco Semioli, Nicola Pozzi, Jonathan Biabiany, Stefano Lucchini and Fernando Tissone.

Fiorentina had the better of the opening and were unlucky not to grab the opener, when a Alberto Gilardino effort flashed wide, before Valon Behrami had his solo effort smothered by Gianluca Curci.

But Sampdoria got back into the game as both Daniele Dessena and Daniele Gastaldello fired over from close range. Then Sampdoria had the best chance of the first half, an audacious Reto Ziegler effort was brilliantly finger tipped away by Arthur Boruc.

Gilardino then wasted another effort as he headed off target from a Manuel Pasqual corner. Boruc then saved well from a Daniele Mannini long range effort. While at the other end, Gianluca Curci also did well to deny Adem Ljajic after he combined with Adrian Mutu.

So it finished 0-0 in Florence, a result that both teams really didn’t want after their dreadful mid-week matches. Back to the drawing board for both coaches it seems.
