Portugal In 7th Heaven: Portugal 7-0 North Korea
After a disappointing result and performance against Ivory Coast last week, Portugal bounced back in the best fashion possible by beating the Democratic Republic Of Korea 7-0. Portugal dropped Liedson in favour of Hugo Almedia and it worked. Portugal were only 1-0 up at half time thanks to Porto Raul Merieles 29th minute effort when slotted it past Ri Myong-Guk after Tiago through ball.
North Korea defensive organised play completely capitulated in the 2nd half conceding 6 goals in 37 minutes. 1st it was Simao who opened the floodgates when he finished after a neat move between Raul Merieles and Hugo Almedia. Then it was Hugo Almedia who made it 3-0 after he headed in from a Fabio Contreao cross. Then it was time for Tiago to make it 4-0 and an assist from the 80 Euro man Ronaldo to slot the 1st of his double in the game. It was nearly 5 moments later but the Werder Bremen striker Hugo Almedia could not convert from a Tiago through ball. It was 5-0 on 81 minutes when Liedson pounced on North Korean poor defending scored with a thumping effort, the North Korean keeper had no chance. It was 6-0 before the 90 Min’s were up and Ronaldo got his goal but not in comical sense when he capitalised on another defensive mistake and the ball rolled up on to his neck and he slotted home into an empty net. The goal scoring finally finished on the 90th minute and the Juventus midfielder Tiago got his 2nd goal of the game when he headed home a Miguel Veloso cross.
An emphatic performance by the Selecaio and they could even top the group if they beat the Brazil team. But if the lose they could still claim 2nd only on goal difference. The Ivory Coast would need to match the Portugal effort of today to qualify. This is going to be very interesting.
