Ronaldinho to Remain at AC Milan Next Season?

Posted by Marzia Hazra Wednesday, May 5, 2021

As the seasons around the continent are coming to a close, speculations regarding the summer’s possible transfers are being fuelled in every thinkable way.

AC Milan ace, Ronaldinho, has been linked with a move to England and the Premier League over the past couple of months after having rediscovered his form earlier this season. The 30-year old has been essential to his side this campaign and played an integral part in the Rossoneri’s late - albeit temporary - title push.

After a mediocre first season in the red and black jersey where Ronnie was berated more often than not for his below par performances as well as his late party nights, the Brazilian - after weeks of speculation over a possible summer exit - was promised a more important role as his main competition Kaká was shipped off to Real Madrid with new coach and countryman, Leonardo, taking over the coaching duties.

The fantasista has gone on to showcase a more consistent play in his second year which thus far has resulted in 10 goals and 14 assists in his 34 league appearances. That the Rossonero is once again in love with the game is easy to see with the return of that famous smile.

The dribbles, slalom runs, overhead-kicks, sublime passes, wonder goals, and dummies are all back on display. The Brazilian is hardly back to his Barcelona-best where he was easily superior to his peers, but the signs are encouraging. To put it plain and simple, the Brazilian has undergone a renaissance under the guidance of Leonardo and has - somewhat unexpectedly - emerged as one of the team’s protagonists this season.

Although Ronnie has reiterated his desire to remain with the Diavolo on several occasions throughout the season - and even expressed wishes to finish his career in the fashion capital - things could come to change sooner rather than later if certain issues aren’t put to bed.

With the transfer window only weeks away from opening, the Brazilian’s future is once again rife with speculation. With reports surfacing about Ronnie having to agree to a major pay-cut in order to extend his current deal - which expires in 2011 - in order to stay with the Rossoneri as the club plan to implement a salary cap, the rumor mills are once more linking Ronnie with a move away from the Italian peninsula.

Another factor which could prove be decisive is the giant cloud of doubt hovering over Leonardo’s future. The Milan tactician’s frosty relationship with club owner Silvio Berlusconi could ultimately force the Brazilian to step aside at the end of the season despite a relatively successful campaign.

With the club and player unable to reach a consensus over the new deal in combination with the possible exit of his current mentor, it’s still uncertain where the Brazilian with the dazzling smile will play his trade next season. However, most of the signs are still pointing towards a stay with the Rossoneri where Ronnie, according to himself, is having the time of his life and is once again starting to play to his potential.
