Champions League: Inter Milan are Tops In Europe

Posted by Walker Sunday, May 23, 2021

Internazionale Milano won the Champions League on Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the final at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Diego Milito bagged both goals for the champions of Italy and Europe.

This was little surprise to me and others on the OGN podcasts. Thursday's RMT podcast contains the gang's predictions on today's outcome give it a listen.

Bayern Manager Louis van Gaal's squad had a majority of possession yet did little with it!  Partner this shortage of originality and doggedness with an outstanding performance by Inter keeper Julio Cesar on the few close encounters by Bayern in the goal area and you get, a clean sheet for the Nerazzurri.

Several pre-match quotes by starting XI Nerazzurri / inter.it

Esteban Cambiasso
Cambiasso: "A dream come true"

"It's one of the most important matches; I have dreamed of it all my life and now I'm 24 hours away from playing it," said the Inter midfielder in the pre-Champions League final press conference. "And it's nice to be playing in a city that I consider a bit mine."

Here the Argentine uses his manager's own pre-final press conference words on the psychological state of Inter, "my team has a dream not an obsession"

Wesley Sneijder
Sneijder: "Bayern more than just Robben"

"I don't think the impact of the referee was that important in the semi-final," he replied. "You can talk about the referee after the match but we won against Barcelona in our stadium. There was no advantage for either team and it will be the same again tomorrow. I'm expecting a great final. A great party. It's a game between two strong teams. We will see who wins."

Sneijder was the the right transfer at exactly the right time for Inter. Since coming onboard you got the feeling the Inter squad had finally found it's missing piece of the puzzle to crack European glory after a 38 years absence from the final.

 Zanetti: "Proud of this Inter"

"I am proud to have played so many matches with the same shirt. And to do it in an important match like tomorrow night's means making history. The secret is lots of hard work and having the faith of all the coaches I have had, training session after training session."

"This will certainly give us extra motivation. The Inter fans have been waiting a long time for this match and we will give everything to win it."

What an incredible ride for Inter icon Zanetti who played his 700th game for Inter in the Bernabeu final.
