Serie A RoundUp Week 34: Pazzini Sink Milan

Posted by Scot Munroe Tuesday, April 20, 2021

A 92 minute winner for Sampdoria by Giampaolo Pazzini ended AC Milan title hopes and could give Samp 4th place? This was 3rd big game of the week as after 20 minutes Marco Boriello gave AC Milan the lead when he rose to meet Mancini cross pass on loan Storari. This game changed 15 minutes after half time on when Daniele Bonera was sent off for bringing down Antonio Cassano through on goal and Cassano spot kick was converted to make it 1-1. Despite being down to 10 men Ac Milan played at their best with Ronaldinho and Boriello missing guilt edge chances. This came to bite them when a Mannini cross was met by Pazzini who out jumped Oddo for the goal. Could this spell the end for Leonardo?

On Friday night pipped 2 off Italy great teams at the San Siro, Inter Milan and Juventus. Inter Milan came out on top to go on top of the league for 2 days. If Momo Sissoko had a brain he would be dangerous. What was he thinking. He was sent off after 38 mintues and it changed Juventus game plan. They were playing pretty well against Inter with Iaquinta, Del Piero and Marchisio wasted chances. Del Piero was sacrificed when Sissoko was sent off for Poulsen. With 15 minutes left Maicon produced one of the goals of the season. As Maicon flicked the ball over Amauri with knee and his right foot unleashed a wonderful volley. It was 2-0 in added time when a scuffed Muntari effort fell to Eto'o who tapped in.

Ah the Rome derby on which was moved to 6.30 local time due to security fears. The red side of Rome would of waken this morning with a big smile on their faces. A 2-1 victory for Roma which elevates them back to top of Serie A. A really frenetic game and quite niggly game, Lazio took the lead on 14 minutes when Rocchi latched on to a Ledesma ball and slotted calmly passed Julio Sergio. But a tactical masterstroke by the tinkerman Ranieri as he took off De Rossi and Totti who both on yellow cards and looking like loosing their heads replaced them with Taddei and Menez. As this worked after when Floccari had his spot kick saved. Vucinic converted his spot kick and then unleashed a bullet free kick pass Muslera who looked like he ducked. Ledesma was sent off for Lazio in the final stages of the game. A fantastic day for Ranieri and Roma.

A Tired Fiorentina traveled to Atalanta looking to cement European football for next season and it failed. Atalanta fighting for survival came out on top 2-1 and gave them a chance for fighting off relegation. Ferreria Pinto and Tribbochi with the goals for Atalanta and Montolivo with a late strike for Fiorentina. Napoli picked up a vital win for the race for 4th as they beat Bari 2-1 thanks to a brace by Argentina striker Lavezzi and Sergio Almiron with the sole goal for Bari. A fantastic fight back by Palermo away at Cagliari trailing 2-0 with stoppage time remaining hit back and got a point of the game. Cossu and a late goal from Jeda looked like giving Cagliari the points but Miccoli and then Abel Hernandez 5 minutes into stoppage time struck for Palermo. Cracking end to the game.

Siena earned a suprise 2-2 draw away at Catania who have hit form recently. Maxi Lopez and Biagianti with the goals for Catania who it looks like they are safe. Maccarone and Vergassola with the goals for Siena, who are in a bit of a dog fight at the bottom. In the early game on Saturday Chievo picked up a 2-0 win over Livorno with big Sergio Pellissier and Abbruscato with the goals for the flying donkeys. This defeat moves Livorno ever closer to Serie B football next season. Genoa won a 5 goal thriller at Parma and chucked away a 2-0 goal lead as well, but Genoa had Ivan Fatic goal 18 minutes from time to give them the shock win. Udinese missed a golden chance to pull themselves from the relegation quagmire after dropping 2 points at home to Bologna. A Christian Zapata own goal gave Bologna shock lead but a late late late goal by Toto Di Natale gave Udinese a share of the points.
