Serie A Round 33 Wrap Up: Inter Slip As Lupi Pounce

Posted by Scot Munroe Wednesday, April 14, 2021

Who would of thought it, Roma are top of the league leapfrogging Inter by beating Atalanta 2-1 at the Olimpico. I could not of said that after week 2 this season when Juventus beat Roma 3-1. What a job that Claudio Ranieri has done in his home club team. A close fought 2-1 over Atlanta thanks to goals from Mirko Vucinic and Marco Cassetti. Simone Tiribocchi goal early in the second half made in quite nervous for the home side but Roma did hold out and the celebrations after the final whistle showed what this means to the Roma players.

Now second place Inter travelled to Florence on the late game on Saturday knowing a result would extend their lead over Roma. Sadly this did not happen thanks to Per Koldrup 82 minute equaliser on which the game ended 2-2. A pulsating game in Florence on which Kerrison on loan from Barcelona gave the home side the lead after 10 Minutes but then 2 goals in 7 minutes from Milito and Samuel Eto'o gave Mourinho team hope. But then up popped Per Koldrup tapped in past Julio Cesar.

Milan may have dropped out of the title race after dropping two points at home to Catania. Catania raced to a two goal lead before half time thanks to Maxi Lopez and then a unmarked Ricchiuti nodded in to make it 2-0. But a 2nd half comeback thanks to a striker called Marco Boriello gave AC Milan a point to snatch away from the jaws of defeat.

Juventus who were shocking at Udinese and to see a little Juventus fan cry last week was quite sad, got back on track with a 1-0 win over Cagliari thanks to Giorgio Chiellini free header early in the 1st half. Lazio warmed up for the Derby on Sunday when they come back from 2-0 down to beat Bologna away from home 3-2. Tomaso Rocchi with the winner 20 minutes from time. A priceless win for Edy Reja side. An away win for Udinese hurrah!, a 2-0 away win at Livorno who are now practically relegated. The goals from Alexis Sanchez and Toto Di Natale.

A cracking game at Napoli on which the result hindered their champions league hopes after suffering a 3-2 home defeat to Parma and Luis Jimenez was the hero with a goal 3 minutes from time. Fabio Quagliarella was sent off for dissent. Palermo have consolidated fourth place thanks to a comfortable 3-1 win over Chievo, Javier Pastore and Fab Miccoli with the goals. A win on Sunday over Bari could be a little to late for Siena. A 3-2 victory twice coming back from a goal down and Alesandro Rosi goal gave them the victory. Derby Della Lanterna day on Sunday evening on which a Antonio Cassano goal gave Sampdoria the win 1-0 over rivals Genoa. That has wiped out the memories off the 3-0 thrashing back in November.
