Internazionale vs Juventus ‘Derby D’Italia’: Preview

Posted by Andy Golding Thursday, April 15, 2021

Friday evening brings the return of the much anticipated Derby D’italia, billed as the biggest match of the week 34 fixtures for entirely different reasons for both sides.

After Internazionale being knocked off the summit of the Serie A table last week following a disappointing draw against Fiorentina last weekend, Mourinho’s men will be seeking to get back on track by beating Juventus who continue their quest for the fourth Champions league spot on Friday evening, whilst Inter will be hoping that Roma fail to beat Lazio in the Rome derby in order to regain top spot again.

Internazionale go into the tie having already played on Tuesday night in the Semi-finals of the Coppa Italia will go into Friday’s clash at a slight disadvantage in preparation over Juventus who scraped a narrow 1-0 victory over Cagliari at the weekend.

Juventus have been boosted by the news of Diego’s and Martin Caceres’ return to full training, although it is unlikely the latter will make the trip to Milan, whilst Diego is expected to at least make the bench, notable absentees include French hitman David Trezeguet, Sebastian Giovinco and Zdenek Grygera.

Whilst the Nerazzurri have also been received encouraging news with the return of Serbian midfielder, Dejan Stankovic after picking up a muscular problem during the pre-match warm up against Fiorentina on Saturday night, and will likely start from the bench as a precaution. Additionally Inter welcome the return of Walter Samuel and Wesley Sneijder, both of whom are expected to start.

Following the events of recent weeks in the Calciopoli trials, Juventus boss Alberto Zaccheroni has promised that the team is completely focused on the task in hand as the outcome will be do or die for Juve’s chances of keeping the pressure on Palermo for the fourth Champions league spot. It remains to be seen as to whether or not Zaccheroni will stick with the newly formulated 4-4-2 formation which earned Juventus their first clean sheet since week 13 or to revert back to the 4-3-1-2 formation, reinstating Antonio Candreva and Alessandro Del Piero both of whom were rested against Cagliari, and will be looking to do the double on Internazionale and maintain the race for the final Champions league position.

Whilst Jose Mourinho is expected to field a 4-2-3-1 to deal with the team’s recent slump in form, additionally he will be keeping an eye on the upcoming Champions league clash against Barcelona, all the pressure will be on Inter as failure to defeat Juventus and Barcelona could effectively end Inter’s quest to win the treble.

  1. I expect betting on this match weighting one side favor to Inter Milan. Obviously, Jose's side are fighting to defense the title where else the Old Lady has no big ambition in hand. The remain target to Juventus are a ticket of Europe League qualification. I do not think so this will helps to raise up the morale of the team because it still easy to achieve it even if Juventus lose the match.

Mourinho's team will nick to win this.
