Matchday 26 Review: Brazilian Flair Back At The San Siro?

Posted by Scot Munroe Monday, March 1, 2021

Alexandre Pato was the hero for Milan as they brushed past Atalanta at the San Siro. He bagged 2 goals but with around 12 minutes to go he picked up a serious thigh injury. Another muscular injury picked up Pato this season and it looks like he will be out for a while and will miss crucial games against Roma and Manchester United. Both of Pato goals was assisted by Ronaldinho who is having a purple patch and is looking like his old self again. Jamie Valdes hit one back for Atalanta with a top class finish as he hit an angled drive past Abbiati. Bonera was brought down in the area by Manfredini. Ronaldinho missed the penalty but Marco Boriello was there to tap in the rebound. Gattuso will now miss the game against Roma at the weekend due a 5th booking of the season.

Inter clung on to a 3-2 away win at Udinese with a decimated squad. Thiago Motta had to deputize as a centre back. There was 2 goals in the opening 6 minutes of the game as in the 1st 70 seconds of the game when Simone Pepe gave Udinese the lead when he beat Julio Cesar one on one. Mario Balotelli equalized 5 minutes later when he nonchalant finished effort from 20 yards out. Maicon and then Milito then made it 3-1 at half time and it looked like smooth sailing for the champions. Penalty was awarded to Udinese early in the 2nd half for handball on Balotelli, up stepped Di Natale to convert to make it 3-2. Then came the melee of Udinese chances as Sammarco and Di Natale missing guilt edge chances. It could of been 3-3 at the end when Simone Pepe smashed the cross bar, so unlucky.

Oh when will Roma ever play for 90 minutes. Napoli came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in the Derby del Sud. Ranieri switched to a suprise looking 3-5-2 with Riise and Motta as the wingbacks and it worked for 70 minutes of the game. Roma soaked up all the pressure that Napoli chucked at them with Christian Maggio missing a guilt edge chance just before half time heading unmarked from 6 yards out. 10 Minutes into the 2nd half Roma took the lead when Baptista was fouled in the area, dusted himself off and dispatched the penalty. Moments later Napoli should of had a penalty when Juan who was already booked brought down Fabio Quagliarella but the referee booked him for diving. Roma doubled the lead when Vucinic finished a Rodrigo Taddei cross. In the last 15 minutes it was all Napoli as Germain Denis clever finish past Doni made it 2-1. Then 1 minute into stoppage time a Penalty was given to Napoli for a handball by Mexes. Marek Hamsik levelled and kept his nerve to make it 2-2.

Palermo finally manage to take their home form away from home as they beat Juventus 2-0. A fantastic Fabrizio Miccoli goal gave the lead with 60 minutes gone and then a Igor Budan effort doubled the lead with 10 minutes to go. Juventus have been awful recently and this result does not help for their push for Europe. A surprise result on Saturday evening game as Catania embarrassed Bari 4-0 with goals from Ricchuti, Llara, Morimoto and Martinez. A fiery game in Chievo as both teams had a players sent off as Chievo saw of Cagliari 2-1. De Paula opened the scoring for Chievo his 1st in Serie A. Astori equalized for Cagliari and then Granoche slide in from a yard out to net the winner.

Bologna shocked Genoa away from home winning 4-3 thanks to an Adailton hat-trick this was truly a shock away victory. Fantastic performance by the little Brazilian Adailton he has come in to his own this season. Lazio and Fiorentina played out a 1-1 draw where the Lazio Ultras boycotted the game. Sivilga gave the homeside the lead after 7 minutes but a late Kerrison goal gave the viola a late equaliser. Siena have Massimo Maccarone to thank as gave Siena a priceless away win at Livorno. Livorno were leading 1-0 with 10 minutes to go but then came the Siena fightback 1st Calaio and then a splendid effort by Maccarone gave Siena the crucial win. Parma won a controversial game at home to Sampdoria. Christian Zaccardo with the only goal of the game but Sampdoria will feel hard done by as the referee awarded a penalty but overuled the call after talking to linesman. Sampdoria players were furious!!!
