Italian Serie A Round 29 Recap: Cassano Sends Lippi A Message

Posted by Scot Munroe Monday, March 22, 2021

Antonio "Peter Pan" Cassano gave Marcello Lippi something to think about 3 months before World Cup 2010.

Cassano's late winner supplied Sampdoria a much deserved win against a brittle Juventus team, lacking creativity and confidence. A fantastic 30 yard screamer from Cassanata (Cassano's other knick), 15 minutes from time, gave Gig Del Neri's boys the win and a joint 4th place positioning with Palermo. Juventus are clearly lacking so much mentally and physically and a defeat at Napoli midweek will be crisis point z.

Mirko Vucinic was the hero as he nabbed a well deserved hat-trick as Roma beat a spirited Udinese side. Roma raced into a 2-0 goal lead thanks to Toni and then Vucinic were then hit back by Udinese and Antonio Di Natale who grabbed a brace. But Mirko Vucinic stepped up to the plate by scoring 2 late crucial goals and with Inter traveling to the Olimpico on Saturday night this is now turning into a 3 horse race.

After winning in Europe Inter traveled to Sicily with one thing on their mind, winning and that sadly did not happen as Edison Cavani scuppered the chance with the equalizers early in the 1st half. Diego Milito gave Inter a crucial lead when Diego Milito tucked home a 10th minute penalty. Then Cavani was the hero for Palermo. Ac Milan and Roma fans were certainly happy with that Result.

Talking about AC Milan a chance to go top of the league were blown as they were held at home by Napoli. Massimo Oddo look away now as Hugo Campagnaro gave Napoli the lead when he guided the ball into the empty net, as Oddo fell on Abbiati. Ac Milan then lost Pato to another muscular injury. Pippo Inzaghi equalized as a cross from Ronaldinho headed home unmarked. Napoli should of and could of came away with 3 points.

Atalanta gave hope to survive relegation as they thumped Livorno at home 3-0. Chevanton, Ferrara Pinto and Padoin with the goals in a relegation 6 pointer. Bari and Parma played out a 1-1 draw and a wonderful solo goal by Andrea Masiello gave Bari the Point. Damiano Zemoni thought he gave Parma all 3 points. A rare Lazio away win and refunds are on the agenda at Cagliari. Tomaso Rocchi and Sergio Floccari with the goals for Lazio with a crucial 3 points. The Cagliari fans will now be getting the refund after the defeat to Lazio.

Chievo and Catania ended up 1-1 and a story which broke in the British media about a lot of betting on the game and match fixing could be on the agenda. Fiorentina won the 2nd game in a row by thrashing Genoa 3-0 at home. A 1-0 precious win over Bologna gave Siena all the confidence they need to battle out relegation to Serie B

  2. Fiorentina have a fire lit under them since being eliminated from CL. They are really doing everything they can to get back in the fight for 4th. Unfortunately I think it is too little too late.

Milan continue to disappoint. Time and time again they fail to capitalize on Inter's slip ups.
