Last Sunday saw Inter Milan defeat Cagliari 3-0 at the San Siro, in what was arguably one of Inter's best performances this season. The main point of this victory was just how key Inter's attacking trio are becoming.
The starting line up saw Mourinho go with Diego Milito, Samuel Eto'o and Goran Pandev in a front three. Javier Zanetti, Esteban Cambiasso and Thiago Motta provided the steel and creativity required in the midfield. Whilst the defence saw Maicon, Walter Samuel, Ivan Cordoba and Davide Santon operate infront of the ever reliable and increasingly outstanding Julio Cesar.
Inter started the match with a bang, when in the 6th minute Goran Pandev latched on to a deflection in the box and placed the ball in the net.
The goal had been created from a superb run by Zanetti down the right wing, he then cut the ball back for Eto'o to shoot, resulting in a deflection between two Cagliari players; Pandev was waiting to place the ball into the back of the net with a left footed shot.
Cagliari were determined to show they were no pushovers and responded when Jeda produced a great save from Julio Cesar. Their response was shortlived however, when a corner kick from Maicon saw Walter Samuel rise up and head past Agazzi.
Cagliari felt they should have scored when a goal from Matri was ruled as offside after latching onto a pass from Lazzari. Cesar was again tested when Nene produced a spectacular left footed volley and the keeper had to use his sharp reactions to get a hand to the ball and divert it for a corner.
Inter's trio of strikers interacted well for the 3rd goal, as Eto'o and Pandev linked up to allow Milito through on goal who secured a comfortable lead for the the hosts after he cooly finished past Agazzi.
With victory secured Mourinho was able to rest Eto'o, who came off for Muntari. Inter fans will have been pleased to see McDonald Mariga make his debut in the famous black and blue shirt and he came on for Thiago Motta in the 75th minute. As the game was finishing Mario Balotelli came on for one of the deadly trio, and Milito received a rapturous applause from the home support.
The victory saw Inter further increase their lead at the top of the table, and surely now no-one can topple them? With the likes of Snjeider, Lucio and Stankovic to return, it seems they can only get better.
