Round 19 Italian Serie A 2009-10 Preview

Posted by Walker Saturday, January 9, 2022

A New Year but truly the final match of the first half of the season happens today with Juventus (3) v AC Milan (2) as the main event Sunday.

Both clubs won last match day against Parma and Genoa respectively. Milan was the more dominate side scoring 5 times against their opposition shall we see the same today, I doubt so.

Juventus having fallen off the pace against scudetto leaders Inter, but should be one of those contests which brings out the champion in both sides, an ancient rivalry to surely revive Bianconeri spirits. Granted no David Trézéguet for the home squad, out with an ankle injury for at least 3 weeks but Amauri is health and should do. I'm hopeful to see a Diego and Juventus midfield make the most of possession, working tirelessly as they must do.

Juventus will first and foremost have to prevent Milan from playing their fluent football while also harassing newly arrived David Beckham from making his trademark crosses. Time on the ball is key in this one and Juventus must dominate from start to finish.
Milan will be short Pato, Seedorf and Zambrotta all three will be missed but replacement partnership of Borriello and Beckham look dangerous and the Juventus back four will have to be strong in the air come Sunday. The hosts see the return of Fabio Cannavaro but Caceres, will miss this match due to a suspension.

Bologna (17) v Cagliari (11)
Bologna seldom get anything from their travels and they seldom deserve anything. I am talking about Bologna and their negative away tactics. Once again they were poor, losing to Catania in midweek. Squad wise Bologna seem to be in order, with Britos and Mingazzini back for this match. Zenoni and Valiani will be suspended. It looks like Bologna will start with three strikers this time. Adailton just behind Di Vaio and Zalayeta. Going for the three points, as always in their home fixtures.

Cagliari come to this game probably on a high. They looked like 100% losers against Roma, but the islanders found a way to score two added-on time goals, shame on you Giallorossi. Cagliari will go on without Lupatelli and Pisano. Add the suspended Canini to their list of absentees.

Fiorentina (7) v Bari (8)

The Viola are up against surprise package Bari in early match action Sunday. The Tuscan side has the slightest of table leads over eighth place Southerners Bari with a +1 goal difference between them.

Both sides come to this match feeling perfectly good after their performance mid-week. Mutu was back in the starting line up for Fiorentina and he lead his side to 5-1 win against Siena in the derby. Jovetic, Marchionni and Dainelli could be back for this match. De Silvestri will replace the suspended Comotto in defence.

Bari and their success? Well they continued to win at home against a weakened Udinese void their super striker Mr. Di Natale, but I do respect Bari and their deserved success. They defend well but at the same time they are ready to counter attack when given the opportunity. Their striker Meggiorini risks missing this match, with Greco ready to deputise. Likely home win this one, but one never knows with these upstart promotion sides.

  2. Fiorentina starts the new year with great victory by scored 5 goals against Siena. The brilliant starts will keep their morale to this game especially when they play under the home supporters. Viola has a good result at home with 5 won out of 8s. The team will take the first home game in year 2010.

Bari, meanwhile has the best result of them. Although they are promoted team and new in Serie A, this small team is now sitting on 8th position with 27 points, side by side to Fiorentina. Undoubtedly, Bari is a tough nut to be cracked but in only situation when they are host because we can see their weakness when visit.

Fiorentina to win this game with moderate confident. Wayne at
