Fancy a flutter on the Italian footie this weekend? Good! As a co-host the Italian Football FanCast which is the finest Italian football podcast on the World Wide Web, allow me to give you some of my predictions for this weekends fixtures, perhaps you’ll make some money out of it.

AC Milan Vs Siena – HOME VICTORY

Milan tactician Leonardo has had to learn on his feet managing one of Europe’s greatest club sides. The season didn’t start too brightly for the rossoneri with some awful results, most notably the home defeat to Zurich in the champions league. However the Brazilian has turned things around, last weekends victory over Juventus was a joy to behold.

Siena may be rooted to the bottom of Serie A, but they almost overcame league leaders Internazionale last weekend, unluckily losing the game in injury time. Since 2003 Siena have only managed to defeat Milan once out of thirteen opportunities and after coming so close and falling at the final hurdle in the San Siro last week I believe the players will be deflated. Siena have lost their last 3 games, I expect that to become 4 this weekend.

Napoli Vs Palermo – HOME VICTORY

Napoli were one of Europe’s big spenders during the summer, assembling a fantastic squad in the process. Roberto Donadoni wasn’t the man for the job though eventually found himself out of a job as the team floundered. Walter Mazzarri has turned things around though and Napoli now find themselves in 4th spot, level on points with the mighty Juventus.

Interestingly, Napoli are unbeaten in Serie A with their new coach and the San Paolo is something of a fortress. Palermo have struggled on the travels all season so the omens are not good for them. Last season the corresponding fixture ended 2-1 to the hosts, don’t rule it out happening again. Whatever happens I’m sure Palermo’s fiery President Maurizio Zamparini will have something to say about it.

Chievo Vs Juventus – AWAY VICTORY

Ciro Ferrara’s dream job has turned into a nightmare, last weekend pathetic performance at home against Milan is straw that has broken the camels back, causing frustrated bianconeri fans to set fire to the seats! Rumours are floating around the murky gossip columns of Marcelo Lippi once again taking over after the world cup; some suggest Ferrara could be on his way sooner with Guus Hiddink taking over until Lippi’s return. However a 3-0 Coppa Italia triumph over in form Napoli will have given them some confidence and perhaps a siege mentality has developed at the club.

Talisman Alessandro Del Piero will find himself back in the starting line-up and I expect Diego to prove some people wrong and turn in a good performance. Chievo are never to be underestimated though, the flying donkeys ended last season as one of the form sides, surviving the drop when expected them to go down. A strong start to the season has been wasted though, 3 defeats on the bounce have seen them start to fall down the table and I think now is not the same to play Juventus.
There are plenty of other tasty fixtures in Serie A, one of the Europe’s strongest leagues and some say the prettiest to watch. Whether your having a flutter or not, enjoy your Calcio

nice write up Dave, hey did you hear about young Paolucci being recalled from Siena to a injury ridden and shaky Juve? Seem like they are circling the wagons (Americana slang) as the club lacks options with injuries to forwards David Trezeguet, Vincenzo Iaquinta and Sebastian Giovinco. Would be surprised at all if Chievo give them trouble this matchday. Both Juventus and Chievo played midweek in Coppa Italia action so no fitness advantage ie. rested players.
