It Is Official Luca Toni Has Joined Roma

Posted by Kevin Walker Thursday, December 31, 2021

Luca Toni will joined AS Roma on loan until the end of the 2010 season, announced German club Bayern Munich.

All that is left to confirm this deal is this afternoon's released statements from both clubs.

“The completion of the transfer is subject to a medical and contract terms between the player and Roma. Yesterday the player underwent a medical at the Agostino Gemelli clinic in Rome and the result was positive.”

It has been suggested Toni asked the Bayern Munich Executive Board to play until the end of the season at Roma for personal reasons which also include playing regularly to achieve Toni's greater objective of taking part in the 2010 World Cup.

“The Bayern Board thanks Toni for the results achieved up until now, in particular the Double of Cup and Bundesliga title in 2008 and wishes him the best of luck for his time at Roma and above all the World Cup."

Now the real questions begin, will Toni play regularly? Will he partner well with playmaker and club talisman Francesco Totti?

Known as the tall target-man, Toni showed himself incapable during Euro 2008. The lanky forward was unable to latch onto threaded, crossing and even high ball passes during the final matches of Euro08. Will the Italian return to form in the Roman capitale? Your guess is as good as mine.

Toni had been touted by FootballFancast in a move to Gianfranco Zola's West Ham United before Christmas after falling out with Bayern manager Louis van Gaal. The player publically criticised the former Holland manager, claiming their relationship was “as good as over,”

The 32 year old Italian started his professional career at Modena in 1994 going on to play for 8 other Italian sides. He is most known for his recent stints at Palermo and Fiorentina before signing a four year contract with German giants Bayern worth €11 million. While at Fiorentina Toni was Top Goalscorer in Serie A for 2006 scoring 31 goals, good enough to receive the European golden shoe award.
