A 3D Weekend In Italian Serie A Football

Posted by Walker Friday, December 4, 2021

Hold on folks as things are going to get stormy these next 7 days.

The World Cup group draw is today which should gain most attention for the next 24 hours, yet one of the biggest Italian derbies takes place tomorrow between Inter Milan and Juventus in Italian Serie A.

The Derby d'Italia could possibly decide this year's scudetto winner as first place Inter faceoff against third place Juventus. Juventus currently trail leaders Inter by 8 points and least we forget both clubs have must win mid-week matches against Ruban Kazan and Bayern Munich.
Jose Mourinho never says never but this matchday cannot out weight the pressure Mourinho is feeling for Champions League success. Clearly the match against Rubin Kazan in 5 days is of primary focus and the Russian squad has already shown they can be a handful.

Prediction: Juventus 1-0

Now you are starting to gage how frantic football is going to get these next few days but wait there is more. Remember the post title "a 3D Weekend in Italian Serie A", well it didn't mean get out your movie glasses football fans. This weekend also presents two additional derby attractions with the Derby della Capitale and Derby delle Isole making appearances on the Serie A calendar.

Roma vs Lazio is always an event to savor as the capital derby and with the return of Francesco Totti and Roma's current good run of form how can I not back the Giallorossi to win.
Roma have 4 wins in their last 5 outtings with a 10 goals for and 5 against.
Lazio on the other hand is a shipwreak gaining a total of 2 points from two nil-nil results over the same period. Clearly off the pitch controversy has hampered Lazio's success this season starting with the Pandev affair which has overshadowed other players and their decisions whether or not to resign with the club.

Prediction: Roma 2-1

Closing things out, we are going to be treated to a red hot Cagliari who travel to tragic Palermo in the Derby delle Isole. Why the tragic introduction - you ask, well two Palermo players have been victims of a gang shooting yesterday evening.

(GSM) - Palermo players Edinson Cavani and Nicolas Bertolo were the victims of a violent attack by local gangs yesterday. The duo stopped for a traffic light, when suddenly two persons on a motorbike appeared and opened fire on the car of the Argentine and the Uruguayan.

Both players came away unharmed from the incident as none of the bullets reached the interior of the car but obviously shaken this could affect the mental state of the team with Palermo management seeking to ensure security concerns of players and their families.

update: Rossi has lengthy list of absentees, captain Fabio Liverani is suspended as is top goalscorer Fabrizio Miccoli while Moris Carrozzieri is still serving his ban for cocaine use.

Davide Succi and Mark Bresciano are both rated as doubtful with injuries.

Prediction: Cagliari 2-1

Across Europe several additional matches to keep your eye on which should provide some good sport are, Bordeaux vs PSG, Nice vs Marseille, Man City vs Chelsea, Valencia vs Bilbao and Hoffenheim vs Hamburger SV
