International Goal Of The Day

Posted by Walker Tuesday, July 29, 2021

South Korean goalkeeper Jung Sung-Ryeong scored an incredible goal on Sunday in a friendly against the Ivory Coast. Jung Sung-Ryeong clears the ball upfield in open play and it bounces straight over his Ivorian counterpart and in the goal. I wonder how many keepers want one of these?

Trofeo TIM in Turin

Posted by Walker

The annual Trofeo TIM pits Italy’s three biggest sides against each other and gives the Coaches a great chance to monitor their level of preparation. From 7.30pm in Turin, Inter, Milan and Juventus clash in the Trofeo TIM and here is what the papers say,

Gazzetta dello Sport - Ancelotti: "Kaka is in shape and we want to win", Ranieri: All that matters to us is to avoid psychological repercussions, Mourinho: Juve risk most in Trofeo TIM

Corriere dello Sport - We will discover Mourinho, The new Inter will challenge Juve and Milan in the Trofeo TIM

Tuttosport - A Scudetto test against Inter and Milan, Amauri and Iaquinta are formidable

Inter have dominated this pre-season tournament, winning five times since its inception in 2001. However, Inter manager Jose Mourinho faces stern tests against Juventus and Milan today, especially with both being further on in their pre-season preparations.

Game Time (three 45min matches will determine the winner)

Match 1: Juventus v Milan; 20:30pm

Match 2: Juventus v Inter; 21:30 p.m.

Match 3: Inter v Milan 22:30 p.m.

Total 90 Omni is the new Nike ball to be used as the official Serie A match ball for the 2008-2009 season. The Omni will be used in the Italian Cup, the Italian Super Cup, the Serie B championships, and finally the Primavera championship also.

Officially presented by the Italian Football League and Nike on Wednesday July 02, was tested for more than two years and is engineered to set new performance standards for consistency, accuracy and visibility.

Innovative ball design has panel geometry placing the hexagons and pentagons precisely together to create a nearly perfect sphere, which distributes pressure more evenly across the panels for what the engineers call a "360-Degree Sweet Spot".

The design of the ball is also beneficial for the players. The black asymmetrical band encircling the ball generates a more powerful visual signal as it rotates, providing a quicker read on ball location, spin rate, speed and trajectory from any angle.

There will also be a winter version of the Total 90 Omni, which is also the official ball for the Premier League in England and La Liga in Spain.

I love that Azzurri colour strip.

The Ghanaian international, Sulley Muntari , has been presented as an Inter player. The former Portsmouth midfielder is making his return to Serie A after a year's absence.

Muntari started his club career in the top tier level at Udinese before being transferred to English Premiership side Portsmouth, for a record club fee believed to be around £7.1m.

He claims he is ready to prove his doubters wrong who all say Muntari was second choice to Frank Lampard for Professor Mourinho.

Muntari went on to say, “In the Premier League they play a different kind of football to the style in Italy, but during the last year I have matured as a player and as a man."

No wonder Muntari is back in Italy, a league with style, excitement and always entertaining.

The Word Soccer Is . . . English ?

Posted by Walker Monday, July 7, 2021

Where does the word soccer orginate?
Why do the English call the game we know in America football?
And who is the sexy babe in the video?

Lets start with the last question first, Marina Orlova is the proud producer of 'HotForWords', she’s 27 and she’s a philologist!

A philologist is someone who studies linguistics and etymology.. and in Marina’s case.. she has applied her Philology degree to specializing in word origins.

Prior to Euro 2008 I sent several word requests asking Marina if she could provide the origin to Football hooligan but Marina has done one better in diving into the origins of soccer.

Upset over the recent Russian lost to Spain at Euro 2008, Marina like a good philologist moves onward with further study of our beautiful game, and how the mates would drool if you showed up to the next Galaxy match with HotForWords in tow.

I'm sure you want answers to the first two questions so I suggest listening to our stunning co-host Miss Orlova as she explains the origins of soccer and other things. Make sure to visit and ask Marina all your football lexicon questions.
