Mourinho denies Inter rumor

Posted by Walker Sunday, March 30, 2021
Friday our sister site EPL Talk broke the story on former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho meeting Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti, but what a difference 24 hours makes as Mourinho now denies holding talks on becoming the Nerazzurri manager next season.

Mourinho issued a statement yesterday contradicting his own spokesman, who said he had met Inter President Massimo Moratti on Friday for talks."I say categorically it is not true that I went to Milan, that I met with Massimo Moratti," said Mourinho. "It is just false to say that I am on the point of signing a contract with Internationale."

Current Internationale manager Roberto Mancini, whose contract runs until 2012, announced on March 11 he would be leaving the post he has held for four years after his side were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Liverpool earlier this month. However, the 43-year-old quickly backtracked and stated his desire to stay the following day after a meeting with Moratti.
Inter Milan managed to ride out a single goal performance by Hernan Crespo in the 11th minute Saturday against opponents Lazio who eventually drew even and the match ended a 1-1, maintaining Inter's 4 point lead over closest rivals Roma.
Mourinho, who lifted the Champions League trophy with Porto before guiding Chelsea to two Premier League titles and an FA Cup, has been linked with a host of European clubs since he left the London club in September last year. Inter have won the last two Serie A titles and current lead the rest of Serie A in this year's scudetto.

The Italian rumour mill continues to claim Roberto Mancini’s replacement has already been lined up.

Power of an Oligarch

Posted by Walker Friday, March 28, 2021

AC Milan owner, chairman and media tycoon Silvio Berlusconi indicated earlier this week he would veto any potential Air France take over of Alitalia if and when he wins Italy's general election next month.

Ahead in polls as the next Italian prime minister, Berlusconi, is feeling the pulse of a nation with this response. The deal has run into stiff opposition from Italian unions and Milan's airport operator and without governmental support the Air France-KLM consortium have indicated they'll drop the deal altogether. Berlusconi while campaigning surprised many in declaring an all-Italian consortium would rescue Alitalia from the "arrogant and unacceptable French offer"

Berlusconi is listed as having a 10 billion US net worth, Silvio care to buy an airline?

Onto Italian football and key matches of the week,

will Lazio help their city rivals Roma in the race to catch Inter? Will Fiorentina steal something on their travels to Udinese?
Will Atalanta hand AC Milan yet another draw result at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza?

The Milan midfielders took part in the midweek friendly between Spain and Italy so look for tired legs and no Kaka. Gilardino has been down with the flu this week so perhaps Paloschi will start up front for Milan but my money is on Pato regardless it will have to be a huge performance for the youngsters against this hungry opposition. Milan are 4-7-3 at the San Siro while Atalanta have a record of 3-4-8 on the road this season.

Something new for Serie A Talk, I'm going to present each Friday a matchday treble starting with: Roma (of course), Udinese, and Catania see for in depth discussion on Serie A and much more.

Clash of Titans

Posted by Walker Sunday, March 23, 2021
The Derby d'Italia did not disppoint as visitors Juventus walked away 2 - 1 winners late Saturday.

Eyes focused on Inter and Juventus once Roma, Fiorentina and Milan all won earlier. Of course the backdrop to this drama is Roma are again thrown a scudetto lifeline, having the Inter lead cut to 4 points by Ranieri and crew. "We want to shock them like we did against Roma", said Ranieri and the Bianconeri did just that, mission complete.

Former Juventus defender, Fabio Canavaro, voiced his opinion prior to match when stating,
"There is a lot of venom, but it’s not just related to the Calciopoli scandal - it’s a rivalry that will always be there."

I'm hoping this one will be broadcast tomorrow on TLNTV or FoxSportsNetwork for anyone who missed it live. It was a physical match and first half play fooled you into believing the Inter attack would carry the day. Cruz was running threw defenders while Ibrahimovic was winning the ball in the air, not to mention his crushing elbow to Chiellini's already prominent nasal feature.

Goals by: Camoranesi 49 (J), Trezeguet 63 (J), Maniche 83 (I)

Inter: Julio Cesar; Maicon, Burdisso, Materazzi, Maxwell; Stankovic, Zanetti, Chivu (Balotelli 82); Jimenez (Suazo 53); Ibrahimovic, Cruz (Maniche 64)
Juventus: Buffon; Grygera, Legrottaglie, Chiellini, Molinaro; Salihamidzic, Camoranesi, Sissoko, Nedved (Nocerino 86); Trezeguet (Iaquinta 82), Del Piero

Derby della Capitale

Posted by Walker Wednesday, March 19, 2021

Welcome to match day 29 and the always entertaining Derby della Capitale, it should be a cracker.

Zeman sees Roma triumph (courtesy of channel4

Former Lazio and Roma boss Zdenek Zeman has tipped the Giallorossi to secure bragging rights in this evening’s Derby della Capitale.
"Roma play the best football in Italy," Zeman told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "Luciano Spalletti has done an excellent job and they could win the Scudetto. I’m not psychic, but I back Roma in the derby, if they believe in themselves."Roma are much stronger, but Delio Rossi is dealing with a lot of injuries. All I want to know is why David Rozehnal isn’t getting played?"....

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti (pictured) has warned his players against letting their emotions get the better for them when they take on bitter city rivals Lazio in a vital clash on Wednesday.

A Test of Metal, Matchday 28

Posted by Walker Saturday, March 15, 2021

Can Roma do the double? Surely is the question this Matchday, as the Giallorossi welcome AC Milan to the Stadio Olimpico. Roma victorious 1 - 0 in the first seasonal head to head need to take all 3 points today, if they hope to overtake leaders Inter. To their credit the capital side have lost only once at home all season and that was to the same club they are currently chasing. Inter will have an advantage in knowing the outcome to Roma vs. Milan, prior to their own match Sunday, against opponents Napoli.

Roma have a majority of regulars available today with the possible exception of key defender Phillipe Mexes. Mexes has been an injury doubt so check match time rosters, his absence will be disappointing to say the least. Ludovic Giuly is fit to play and will no doubt come on from the bench at some point during the match.
Visitors Milan should have Seedorf, Gattuso, Nesta and Jankulowski all back for this showdown. Let the games begins!

At top of Serie A Inter, Roma and Juventus were situation normal all three winning with a scoreline of 2 - 0.

A brused and beaten AC Milan also overcame opponents Empoli by 3 - 1. I personally had wondered how they would respond considering the midweek Champions League crash and burn at the feet of Arsenal. It looks like the rabbit's foot in Ancelotti's pocket did the trick this time.

On the otherhand midweek winners Fiorentina (in their UEFA Cup clash against English side Everton), was not so lucky. The Viola suffered defeat in the finally 10 minutes, when Siena fans were treated to simply the best goal of the day by Maccarone. The former Middlersborough player was given an opportunity to score with a direct kick awarded just outside the box and Maccarone made the most it by curling his strike into the extreme right-hand top corner.

I apologise for the blackout due to technical difficulties with our service provider, the Football Talk network was off internet-waves the last 4 days.
I would also like to send a Get Well Soon to The Gaffer @ EPL Talk who is still in hospital. Chris all of us at Serie A Talk wish you a speedy recovery.

Now on to Matchday 27,
Saturday March 8
18:00 Inter Milan vs. Reggina
20:30 Palermo vs. Udinese

Sunday March 9
15:00 Catania vs.Cagliari
15:00 Empoli vs. AC Milan
15:00 Lazio vs. Livorno
15:00 Napoli vs. AS Roma
15:00 Parma vs. Sampdoria
15:00 Siena vs. Fiorentina
15:00 Torino vs. Atalanta
20:30 Genoa vs. Juventus

I'll be watching the Napoli - Roma match very closely especially if Reggina perform a miracle Saturday against Inter. This may not be such an oddity as the Nerazzurri are coping with a current injury crisis and Reggina are in desperate need of points.

Also the relegation battle is heating up with Seina and Parma climbing out of the bottom four while Empoli and Catania continue to slide down the table dangerously close to Reggina and Cagliari in 19th and 20th.
