Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon This season Buffon has restored his reputation as one of the World’s greatest goalkeepers. He endured a torrid previous 12 months, injuries curtailing his involvement with the Bianconeri. He certainly did not lack motivation to return and there is little doubt he is the Gigi of old. As Juventus remained unbeaten throughout Serie A and finished in top spot; Buffon kept 21 clean sheets in 35 appearances. His finest moment this season was an outstanding near-post save [...]

Serie A returned this week after the postponed fixtures off last week after the sad death of on loan Udinese midfielder Piermario Morosini at Livorno. This weekend action on the pitch will be remembered for Juventus putting a brilliant performance at home to Roma. Off the pitch it will be remembered for the sour scenes in Genoa where the Ultras made their mark and disrupted the game against Siena which they were losing. Here are the top five goals from [...]

There was some idiotic scenes in the Genoa, as the home side -losing to Siena at the time -were demanded to take of their jerseys by their own ultras. The reasoning; according to this small minority of fans the players were not fit enough to wear the club’s colours. Marco Rossi, Genoa’s captain, ceded to their demands and went about collecting jerseys from his team-mates.  This left Genoa Giandomenico Mesto in tears on the pitch. To their credit, at least [...]

Ahead of tomorrow night’s mouth-watering Champions League semi-final between Barcelona and Milan, former Rossoneri striker Marco Simone has claimed that, “Milan have 50 per cent chance to win the second leg against Barcelona in my opinion.” Simone would be right were the game to be decided by the flip of a coin. But, this is not how the winner will emerge. Rather, what the teams produce on the pitch is what will determine just who progresses to the semi-finals. And [...]

A young star who had the world at his feet; Alberto Aquilani was viewed as one of the best players to come through the AS Roma academy. He went on to feature for the Giallorossi before injuries curtailed his involvement. English side, Liverpool FC, gambled upon Aquilani’s fitness when they signed him in August 2009. A disappointing season entailed and the Italian was loaned to Juventus. Whilst playing for the Bianconeri, he displayed an ability to dictate a match’s tempo [...]

Then there was one. After the first set of games in the round of 16 it looked like Italy would have at least two, if not three teams in the quarterfinals. After Inter’s dismal showing against Marseille, and Chelsea’s comeback against Napoli, Milan remain the only Italian team in all of Europe. It didn’t get any easier for the peninsula as Milan were handed a big task. To make it to the semi-finals they first have to face Barcelona for [...]

Yet another cracking weekend of Calcio in Serie A this weekend, where Juventus unbeaten run amazingly still continues after they defeated Inter in the Derby D’Italia on Sunday evening with Alessandro Del Piero rolling back the years. A Zlatan Ibrahimovic brace ensured the leaders picked up three more points on Roma. The race for the final Champions League spot it well poised as only Lazio won with a Mobido Diakite goal. Udinese and Napoli both dropped points. Here are the [...]

It will not decide the fate of the Scudetto; the season is still too young for that. However, this Saturday’s Milan versus Juventus showdown is undoubtedly the game of the season. Milan holds a one point advantage over their adversary. Juve still has a game in hand to make up in March. The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza has been a happy hunting ground for the Bianconeri this campaign, with a League win over Inter and triumph in the Coppa Italia semi-final [...]

It could not have been any better. It could not have been any sweeter. Four unanswered goals from Milan against Arsenal ensured the Italians have at least one foot in the quarter finals. For coach Max Allegri, it was his most significant moment in the Champions League of his short managerial career. But, Allegri was not the star of the night. Led from the front by an inspired Zlatan Ibrahimovic, it was the collective performance of Milan that shone the [...]

Health scares, multi-million pound on-off deals and the toppling of a prime minister. It has the makings of a political thriller that any dramatist would be proud off. Instead, it has been the script of Massimiliano Allegri’s awkward second season in charge of Milan. It is easy to forget just how rocky the waters have been in the background to his attempts to build on the foundations of a debut year Scudetto. The champagne had hardly dried on the carpets [...]

As the old cliché goes, history repeats itself. And this could not be truer come every February for Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Whether at Barcelona or in the blue or red half of Milan, the ‘big’ Swede’s scoring record often leaves something to be desired at this time of the year. Goals, to be precise. In each of the last five seasons he has just managed one solitary goal in this month. While in the last two seasons he has [...]
