Chievo stunned Roma Tuesday evening with a brilliant defensive performance. The only goal of the game came bang on ninety minutes from a volley by Cyril Thereau. The Roma attack was nullified by the Chievo defence and was not allowed to play their free flowing football.

Both teams started with the three man backline, Chievo were playing with a 5-3-2 formation and Roma started with the formation they finished with on Saturday night with a 3-4-1-2 formation.

Roma had the first opportunity of the game after eleven minutes when Dodo had an angle drive which was deflected over by the Chievo defence. Isaac Cofie for Chievo then tried from long distance with a low effort which was dragged wide. Pablo Osvaldo then missed a golden chance when Ivan Piris done well to cross the ball from the right hand with a low cut back to Osvaldo who side footed effort was well saved by Christian Puggioni. Roma nearly took the lead right on half time when a fierce free kick from just outside of the area by Francesco Totti was punched away by Puggioni.

Adrian Stoian had the first chance of the second half when Luciano broke from deep and played in Stoian on the right hand side but his effort went harmlessly wide. At the other end Mattia Destro let the ball run across his body and wriggled away from two defenders but his weak effort was comfortably saved by Puggioni.

Francesco Totti was unlucky as he hit the cross bar from a deflected effort. From the resulting corner Mattia Destro had a header which was brilliantly parried away by Christian Puggioni. Roma were denied a penalty when Francesco Totti was barged over by Marco Andreolli but the referee said no penalty.

Dodo was once again denied by the Chievo defence as his goal bound shot was brilliant blocked by Marco Andreolli. Alessandro Florenzi then fired a first time volley over the bar from a Leandro Castan cross. Chievo got the goal the defensive play deserved as Chievo broke from the back as left back Drame crossed in for Cyril Thereau to volley home from close range.

A Football fan for around 18 years since the age of 6 years old. My first love is Swindon town now managed by the mad man that is Paolo Di Canio. I have been a fan of Italian football for around 10-15 years now since the Channel four days back in the Uk with James Richardson. I am a Roma fan as well and i have been following the club since 2003 with the attack minded football with Totti and Cassano.
