On loan Roma striker Marco Borriello scored the only goal to give Juventus a deserved 1-0 away win at Cesena. Cesena with this result have now been relegated to Serie B. Both Milan clubs won their games, AC Milan had to thank Kevin Prince Boateng for a late goal. Inter won away at Udinese to give their push for Champions League Football a reality. Both capital sides were beaten by teams in the lower half of the table in Novara and Fiorentina.

This is the week 33 games that got called off over ten days ago due to the sad death of Piermario Morosini. The games were spread over two days which was Tuesday and Wednesday. The games kicked off at 12.30pm, 3pm and 6pm due to the Champions League games that were played.

Tuesday 24th April

There were two games on the Tuesday evening. Atalanta took on Chievo and a late strike from Maxi Moralez gave Atalanta the three points. The goal came twenty minutes from time and the Argentinean playmaker scored a brilliant strike which curled into the top corner and gave the keeper no chance.

Cagliari took on Catania in Trieste and picked up a brilliant home win. Thiago Ribeiro gave the home side the lead in the first half with a low drive from outside of the area. Cagliari got two goals in the second half from Maurico Pinilla and Victor Ibarbo.

Wednesday 25th April

The lunch time kick off was Novara home game against Lazio and the relegation threatened home side proved to be a match over Lazio. Lazio defender Mobido Diakite gave Novara the lead when he deflected a cross into his own net. The lead was short lived as Andrea Candreva equalised for Lazio two minutes later with a header from close range. Giuseppe Mascara gave Novara the lead and the win with a brilliant free kick which went in off the upright.

Roma inconsistent form continues as they dropped more points at home to Fiorentina. Stevan Jovetic gave Fiorentina the lead when he headed home from inside of the box after two minutes. Roma equalised with twenty minutes to go when Fernando Gago shot was diverted by Francesco Totti into the back of the net. But in the second minute of added time the Viola struck when Andrea Lazarri netted the winner when he curled home past Gianluca Curci. After the goal Pablo Osvaldo got sent off for the second time this season.

Napoli travelled to Lecce and came back with the three points. Marek Hamsik opened the scoring with a brilliant goal a volley from the edge of the area. Edinson Cavani added the second when the Uruguayan striker broke the offside trap and calmly finished to double Napoli lead.

Udinese hosted Inter Milan in an important game for the fight for the third spot for the Champions league; the away side came up on top. But it was Udinese took the lead after five minutes when defender Danilo let fly from outside of the area which flew past Julio Cesar and in off the post. But two goals from Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder gave Inter the turnaround. With ten minutes remaining in the first half Ricky Alvarez added the gloss to the scoreline.

Siena and Bologna shared the spoils, Mattia Destro opened the scoring for Siena. Bologna equalised with a brilliant free kick from the elegant Alessandro Diamanti.
Free kick was from all round thirty yards out plus and flew into the top corner.

Parma sprung a surprise on Palermo with a brilliant away performance in Scilly. Abel Hernandez opened the scoring when he headed past Antonio Mirante from inside of the six yard box. Stefano Okaka equalised for Parma after Sebastian Giovinco effort was well saved and Okaka headed home the rebound. Jonathan Biabiany got the winner for Parma after side footing home after a Sebastian Giovinco cross.

AC Milan huffed and puffed and bundled their way to 1-0 home win over Genoa who had to play the last twenty minutes with ten men. Bosko Jankovic was sent off for a tackle from behind on Ignacio Abate. Milan got the goal when Urby Emanuleson crossed in from the left hand side and found the prince, Kevin Prince-Boateng at the back post who finished past Sebastian Frey.

So the emphasis was on Juventus who travelled to Cesena to extend their lead at the top of Serie A to three points. Juventus were awarded a ninth minute penalty kick for a handball which happened outside of the area. Andrea Pirlo like on Sunday missed his penalty this time hitting the upright. The only goal of the game came with eleven minutes remaining where Mirko Vucinic knockdown fell to Marco Borriello who hit it first time on the half volley into the bottom corner. This was Borriello first goal of the season and the first since the last day of last season where he scored for Roma in their 3-1 win over Sampdoria.

Sadly with this result, Cesena were relegated to Serie A.
