AC Milan have agreed a deal with Catania to sign Maxi Lopez.  The Milanese club are looking for a new forward after Antonio Cassano underwent heart surgery earlier this month.

Milan have been heavily linked with the troublesome Carlos Tevez in recent weeks, with a loan deal their preferred option.

However, Manchester City want to recoup some of the £50 million they allegedly spent to bring him to the Etihad Stadium.

Lopez is seen as a more realistic option, and following a meeting between Adriano Galliani and Catania Director, Pietro Lo Monaco, Tuesday night, they’ve agreed a deal.

Whether Lopez  will see regular game-time remains to be seen. He will have to compete alongside Alexandre Pato, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robhino and Fillipo Inzaghi for a place in the Rosseneri’s starting eleven.

I became enthralled with Calcio back in the 90’s, when James Richardson presented Football Italia. My early mornings were spent following the trials and tribulations of Internazionale, during a period where they always flattered to deceive. It took a Frenchman to get me hooked though; Youri Djorkaeff, my favourite player of all time. This guy was key to Inter’s midfield, never mind his role in France’s World Cup win in 1998! I have a keen interest in Calcio’s rich history.
