Italian Serie A Week 6 RoundUp: Lazio Overcome The Rome Derby Hoodoo
Italian Serie A returned after the international break and if you were looking for goals this match day, Serie A was not obliging. Five games ended as nil-nil draw result. Inter stumbled away yet again, while Lazio over came A.S. Roma thanks to a late winner and AC Milan were gifted an important win at home 24 hours prior.
Saturday 15th October
Inter Milan went down to Catania to a 2-1 defeat after Esteban Cambiasso gave Inter the lead. Catania hit back with two goals in 4 second half minutes thanks to Sergio Almiron and a winner from the penalty spot when Francesco Lodi converted. AC Milan got back to winning ways after losing badly at Juventus with an emphatic 3-0 win at home to Palermo. Antonio Nocerino, Robinho and Antonio Cassano with the goals to give the Milanese club the win. The final game on Saturday was Napoli home game with Parma, everyone was thinking that Napoli would win but were outdone with a late goal. Parma took the lead thanks to Massimo Gobbi, Napoli hit back when sub Giuseppe Mascara netted. But with 8 minutes remaining a battling Parma side got the winner thanks to Francesco Modesto thanks to a Sebastian Giovinco assist.
Sunday 16th October
The remaining seven games on Sunday fielded just five goals with five of the game all ended 0-0. Atalanta home game to Udinese, Cagliari home game to Siena ended up 0-0. Cesena home game with Fiorentina ended up 0-0 where Adrian Mutu was sent off for an elbow on Mattia Cassani. Not a good return against his former club. Chievo drew 0-0 at home to Juventus and Genoa drew 0-0 with Lecce. The only goals from the Afternoon games came at Novara where Bologna won 2-0 under Stefano Pioli first game in charge. Goals in each half from Gaston Ramirez and Robert Acquafresca gave Bologna a needed win.
The big game of the weekend was the Rome Derby and going into the game Roma were the derby side after winning the last five in league and cup, something Lazio wanted to get rid off and they did. Roma took the lead early in the game thanks to Pablo Osvaldo. Lazio hit back in the second half and they were brilliant. Christian Brocchi won a penalty which Simon Kjaer was sent off for the challenge. Hernanes scored from the penalty spot. Then in added time Lazio netted a dramatic winner thanks to Miroslav Klose calm finish. Lazio players and staff celebrated after the final whistle in front of the Curva Nord.
A fantastic performance by Lazio who defeated their neighbours in a very enjoyable Derby game, it kept you on the edge. This game wrapped up a very dull weekend in Serie A with five of the ten games ended goal less.
