Serie A Week 24 Team of the Week
Scot Munroe presents Team of the Week for match-day 21. Formation 4-2-3-1
Goalkeeper - Julio Cesar (Inter)
Even though he conceded 3 goals against Roma at the weekend, he actually pulled of some unbelievable saves to deny both Borriello and Menez.
Right Back - Maicon (Inter)
Was very impressive and was very direct with his play on the attack, he constantly ran at Fabio Simplicio and John Arne Riise down the right hand side. Assisted the 1st goal for Inter.
Centre Back - Thiago Silva (AC Milan)
Back into his centre back role for Milan and he was very calm and very difficult to move off the ball. He was very assuring at the heart of the Milan defence.
Centre Back - Andrea Barzagli (Juventus)
The former Wolfsburg and Palermo defender slotted straight into the Juventus back 4, Barzagli kept the inform Aquafresca quiet and set up Luca Toni winner for Juventus.
Left Back - Christian Maggio (Napoli)
The Napoli wing back was unstoppable on the right hand side for Napoli. Set up Cavani for his goal and had a beautiful header wrongly disallowed.
Centre Midfield - Thiago Motta (Inter)
After getting called to the Italian national squad the holding midfielder put in a stellar performance against Roma. He did a brilliant job shielding the back 4 with Roma constant attack with Vucinic and Menez. He also managed to get on the scoresheet.
Cente Midfield - Josip Illicic (Palermo)
After a bit of a sluggish start to 2011, Illicic starred in Palermo win away at Lecce by setting up Pastore for the equaliser and netting on himself.
Right Midfield - Alexis Sanchez (Udinese)
He is one of the stars off 2011 already and he has upped his price tag with his brilliant performance against Sampdoria. He scored a header from a Di Natale and then set up Di Natale for him to score his 100 Serie A Goal for Udinese.
Left Midfield - Antonio Di Natale
“Toto” at the age of 33 is in his prime at the moment and managed to score his 100 Serie A goal for Udinese in 215 games a very good record. Along with Sanchez he scored one and set up the other. These two are a deadly duo for Serie A defences.
Attacking Midfielder - Wesley Sneijder (Inter)
A fantastic return to 1st team football for the Dutchman, 130 seconds into the game he scored a brilliant left footed effort, Set up Eto’o for the 2nd goal of the game and played the ball over the top for Pazzini to win the penalty.
Striker - Alessandro Matri (Juventus)
Signed on deadline day from Cagliari on loan and he returned with a vengeance. This was a dream game for Matri has he netted a brace for his new club at his parent club. A crucial signing for Juventus in the final half of the season.
