The Champions League is back! Outside South America, the most exciting club competition. Yesterday the week’s first two games took place!

AC Milan hosted Tottenham Hotspur, an “eventful” game to say the least! Milan’s keeper Christian Abbiati suffered what appeared to be a concussion at 18 minute mark and was taken to hospital for closer examination. Enter Marco Amelie as the replacement and we knew we were in for a rough ride.

Conclusion, Spurs were the better side on the day, with Peter Crouch scoring the all important away goal 10 minutes before injury time.

Several additional dramas in the game included the Mathieu Flamini brutal tackle against Tottenham’s Vedran Corluka. Flamini got away with it but surely deserved a red card. Because of the clash Corluka could not continue and was subbed off.

Harry Redknapp would voice a few words after match with,  “It was a deliberate tackle, he could have broken his leg. The referee should have red carded him”

Word on the street is Gattuso was provoked by Jordan with words to the effect of, “f***ing Italian bastard”
The main event would come to a boil when Milan’s Gennaro Gattuso slapped Tottenham’s assistant coach Joe Jordan during the game, and returned after match, to also attempt a headbutt.

He did apologize for his behaviour claiming, ” I lost control, there is no excuse for what I have done. I take responsibility for that, I was nervous, I was wrong to do what I have done” but the apology may be not enough, as UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against him.

Final score 0-1.

The other Champions League encounter for the evening ended all even with a final score of 1-1 between Spain’s Valencia and Germany’s Schalke. Former Real Madrid icon Raul scored the only goal for visiting Schalke.
