Rafa Benitez is hanging by a very thin thread but a thread that seems to be holding the robust Spaniard in employment for the moment at least. With Inter going through a winless streak not seen since the pre-Calciopoli days, one wonders how long the Spanish custodian has at Inter. That may change with defeat to FC Twente tonight in their Champions League encounter tonight at the San Siro. But what has caused the former Liverpool boss to lead the [...]

Javier Chevanton, Lecce’s Uruguayan striker has been given a five match ban by the Italian football federation after his sending off against Sampdoria last weekend. Firstly, lets take a look at the case for the prosecution.  37 minutes into the first-half of last Sunday’s game, Chevanton went down inside the visitors penalty area in what looked like a clear foul, the referee, Gabriele Gava, waved away the players frantic appeals and play continued. Moments later Chevanton lunged into a tackle on former [...]

There is little doubt now; Milan has become the Ibra Show. After single-handedly steering Milan to important wins over Inter and Fiorentina with match winning goals, Zlatan Ibrahimovic again proved to be the difference for Milan as he ensured his side progression to the next round of the Champions League. In an unspectacular and relatively even game, Ibrahimovic was at the heart of everything positive for Max Allegri’s side. The big Swede provided the first real chance for Milan after [...]

Last season Roma lost their opening two fixtures & sat bottom of Serie A. The extremely talented & innovative Luciano Spalletti resigned & the club appointed Claudio Ranieri to his dream job. The Roman coach did what he was seemingly incapable of elsewhere & inspired his home-town team to an incredible 24 game unbeaten run during which his every move seemed perfect. The final game of that streak was a come-from-behind derby victory over Lazio in which he substituted iconic [...]

Tomorrow night Milan play a crucial Champions League tie away against French side Auxerre. A win could ensure Milan’s progress to the next round, whilst a loss or even a draw could put the club’s qualification for the next round at risk. For Max Allegri and his revitalised Milan side, everything is rosy red on the domestic front. For two weeks now the Rossoneri have occupied top spot and last weekend extended their lead after beating Fiorentina at home thanks [...]

Welcome back to the Roma Review! Roma are starting to look more and more like a top side club these days. I honestly thought that they would be somewhere in the lower top 10 of Serie A, and would be looking for some major help in the Winter transfer window. They seem to have found their stride, and they may get into the round of 16 in Champions League. They also took a much needed 3 points in their last [...]

Brescia – Cagliari First up for new Cagliari coach are Brescia and it promises to be an enthralling encounter between two sides that have plenty of attacking talent but seem unable to turn good performances into three points. Brescia have only managed two points from the last eight matches while Donadoni has had less than a week to implement his ideas on the team. Catania – Bari Bari face a trip to Sicily without the majority of first team players. [...]

Traditionally Italy have always fared poorly in friendly matches. The Italian mentality is such that only in important matches do the players really put in the required effort. Clearly, this is not a real problem, after all when measuring a nations’ football success in terms of World Cup triumphs, Italy is second only to Brazil. It is hard to imagine that in 2006, just four years ago, the Azzurri marched to victory in Berlin. Since this incredible but unexpected achievement, [...]
