On this weeks Italian Football FanCast we delve deep into week eight’s matches. Palermo’s away form of last season returned in Udine, and Kris Voakes was there to catch all the action from the Stadio Friuli. Dov was at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris to see a below par Genoa side overcome Catania and save Gian Piero Gasperini’s job for one more week at last, while their city rivals headed to Milan to play Inter at the San Siro in what [...]

Sampdoria were 12 minutes away from leaving the San Siro as the 1st club in 18 months to beat Inter at home, but Samuel Eto’o was the saviour. Both teams came into the game after European exploits. Inter beat Spurs 4-3 in the Champions League and Sampdoria went down 2-1 in the Ukraine against Metalist in the Europa league. Inter had the major injury problems with Macdonald Mariga, Dejan Stankovic, Amatino Mancini, Thiago Motta, Diego Milito and David Suazo all [...]

Hey kids didn’t your coach tell you never to go to ground?  I guess that didn’t stick with Napoli’s Argentine forward Ezequiel Lavezzi after training . The little man nicknamed “El Pocho” (often compared to Carlos Tevez) scored a consolation goal for the Partenopei against AC Milan Monday evening. Check it one out and explain to me how it got past the keeper.

It was not spectacular, rather, it was hard fought affair in a match that threatened to boil over on more than one occasion. But it was job done, even if it was not that convincing. Following the midweek debacle in Spain, coach Max Allegri can be proud of his side for having turned their fortunes around. As a result, Milan’s title challenge is still very much on track as the side sit just two points behind leaders Lazio. The loss [...]

Lazio go into week eight of the Serie A season top of the pile, two points clear of both Milan sides. Not many would have expected Edy Reja’s charges to be leading the table whilst being there on merit with some excellent performances from their big names, coupled with the resurgence of some older faces. The Biancocelesti are unbeaten since the opening day of the season when Sampdoria triumphed 3-0 at the Marassi. With away wins over Chievo and Fiorentina, [...]

After the top teams gaining positive results last weekend, Serie A rolls around once more. There are a number of big matches this weekend, with Napoli’s clash with AC Milan on Monday the pick of the bunch. Bologna – Juventus With only four points between the two sides, they are both in very different form. Juventus seem to be clicking into gear led my Milos Krasic, though a disappointing midweek game in the Europa League could well have a bearing [...]

It takes little in football to move from celebration to criticism then back again & Palermo are almost living proof of this. Rightly lauded last year for a superb season which almost saw them clinch a Champions  League spot. Ultimately they were beaten in that chase by the equally impressive Sampdoria, but 2009/10 was undoubtedly a success for the Rosanero. Then came the summer transfer market & celebrations quickly turned to doubts. Selling two of last seasons best players – [...]

One of the greatest strikers of modern football is of course Gabriel Batistuta, when you think of goals his name is one of the first that springs to mind. The 2006 World Cup winner put away his 178th Serie A goal for Juve at match Giampiero Boniperti’s record. Plaudits must go to the striker but it is part of a wider story as Juventus seem to be improving week upon week and are genuinely looking competitive once more. Less than 24 hours to go for the Real vs Milan Champions League encounter at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid. Surely faithful from both sides are in the process of preparation for this next installment, and the never ending story of who will have their name etched most times into the records as Cup winner is argued yet again. Madrid fans will of course claim they already hold the title of most wins with 9 to Milan’s 7.  While [...]

Since the big-money arrivals of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho in the summer, and the ongoing rumours about Ronaldinho’s future, the spotlight has been away from one of Milan’s star performers in recent weeks. Alexandre Pato, admittedly, has been out of form. It appeared for a while that alongside the likes of Ibrahimovic, Robinho and Ronaldinho, he would no longer have the same impact that he once had for the Rossoneri, especially when he sustained an injury in the second match [...]
