Any hopes that Milan had of winning the Scudetto this season, or anything for that matter, were dealt a severe blow last night as it was the Old Lady, Juventus that trumpeted that it is she who is on her way back, not the Rossoneri. Milan have been poor of late, unconvincing in their wins against Chievo and Napoli and completely humiliated by Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, things are not going right for Max Allegri’s side. Playing at home [...]

Seventeen years ago a sixteen year old boy, taken to Turin’s Stadio Delle Alpi as a birthday gift saw a young striker score on his home debut in a game against Reggiana. All the boy could talk about on his way home was the fact he’d seen Roberto Baggio score in the flesh & that Juventus had won 4-0. His father turned to him & said “That last goal was nice, need to keep an eye on that kid”. Much [...]

When Gareth Bale scored his first goal for Tottenham against Inter, reducing the deficit from 4-0 to 4-1, it was immediately obvious that his searing pace and instinctive finish could grace a top European team.  Tottenham were dead and buried in the Champions League tie, but they still had Bale. He then dribbled down the left again, leaving Maicon in his wake, of all people.  He smashed in a second goal and, although Tottenham had seemingly still been thrashed, the [...]

The summer saw a number of ins and outs at Udinese, the Zebrette were subject to a number of moves for their stars who had just performed well in the World Cup in South Africa, surprising for a side that flirted so closely with relegation the previous season, but they managed to keep hold of their stars for the forthcoming season even if they did change their coach. This weekend Milan will play host to Serie A rivals Juventus. Not so long ago a match between these two heavyweights of Italian football would feature some of the best players in the world. But both clubs are definitely showing signs of intent to regain past glories. Juventus, in particular, seem to [...]

Welcome back to Roma Review for this week’s look at I Lupi. It was interesting to watch Marco Borriello, Mirko Vucinic, and Francesco Totti all start the Sunday match against Parma. On paper, Ranieri was at least putting his best players forward, and with Vucinic just back from injury I was glad to finally see this Roma starlight playing again. Brighi and Pizarro played as the heart of the midfield with the team still short one aka Daniel De Rossi [...]

The Serie A more than any league in the modern era has been graced with phenomenally creative talents that combined artistry with athleticism to put beautiful in “the beautiful game” with Fantasisti such as Zico Baggio, Boban, Rui Costa, Recoba, Zidane and Kaká  jinxing, shimmying or feinting their way into the hearts of every calcio fan. The evolution of football in the 21st century has led to a more physical game with less importance being placed on the trequartista, however [...]
